Under the technical supervision of the Programme Management Officer and the overall guidance of the Chief of the Marine and Ecosystem Unit, the Individual Contractor will support the unit by undertaking management and restoration of marine and coastal ecosystems through project implementation and data-driven reporting.
Key Responsibilities
Small Grants Implementation: Support the management of the UNEP Small Grants Programmes focused on marine and coastal ecosystems.
Stakeholder Coordination: Liaise with implementing partners to ensure timely reporting and review the outputs and impacts of various projects.
Donor Relations: Coordinate with donor partners to provide comprehensive and periodic reports.
Resource Mobilization: Organize learning opportunities among partners and develop proposals for the expansion of marine conservation and restoration efforts.
Performance Analysis: Regularly analyze the quality of deliverables, implementation rates, and partner capacity within the small grants programme.
Technical Reporting: Support the Marine and Coastal Ecosystem Unit in reporting to IPMR and other relevant platforms, ensuring all data sets and reports are submitted on time.
Publication Oversight: Coordinate the publication of the unit’s flagship report regarding indigenous peoples and coral reefs, ensuring compliance with UNEP publication board requirements.
Data Analytics: Collect and analyze data using visualization methods (graphs, charts, tables) to identify trends and enable data-driven planning and decision-making.
Requirements and Qualifications
Academic Background: A Master’s Degree or equivalent in project management, environmental management, environmental finance, environmental sciences, marine science, or a related field. A first-level university degree with two (2) additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of an advanced degree.
Professional Experience: A minimum of two (2) years of relevant experience in project or programme management within marine ecosystem management, restoration, or related environmental fields.
International Context: At least two (2) years of experience in the field at an international level is required.
Analytical Skills: Experience in data analytics and reporting is highly desirable.
Preferred Experience: Previous experience in project design, supervision, monitoring, and evaluation in developing countries; familiarity with climate funds (GEF, GCF, GFCR); or prior work experience within the UN system.
