The Kwetu Training Centre for Sustainable Development is seeking an Integrated Multi-Trophic Aquaculture (IMTA) Coordinator to lead its mariculture operations. Under the overall supervision of the Kwetu Centre Manager, the IMTA hub coordinator will manage the IMTA hub, Kwetu mariculture, and coordinate activities in the field targeting project beneficiaries. The coordinator will work closely with the WorldFish team and the Kwetu Centre Manager in the operationalization of the IMTA hub. You will be responsible for the project delivery and supervision of technical staff assigned to the project.
Responsibilities
Leadership & Management: Manage the daily operations of the IMTA hub, providing technical guidance to technicians, trainers, and project staff. Supervise project staff assigned to IMTA and other Kwetu mariculture activities.
Resource Mobilization: Lead resource mobilization efforts for the department and ensure the accountable and wise use of resources for the department and target beneficiary groups.
Stakeholder Coordination: Coordinate with WorldFish and relevant stakeholders regarding the operationalization of the IMTA hub. Establish linkages with the County Director of Fisheries and other stakeholders in fisheries, forestry, and environment.
Research & Development: Initiate collaborations to advance research and refine sustainable silvofishery technologies in Kenya. Document and disseminate research results in scientific journals, reports, and international conferences.
Community Engagement: Organize IMTA farmer clusters (seaweed, milkfish, crab, oyster, sea cucumber), provide training sessions, and assist with mangrove restoration and farming activities.
Operations & Quality Control: Develop user manuals and standard operating procedures. Implement participatory monitoring and evaluation of projects. Provide monthly and technical reports on all activities.
Requirements & Qualifications
An advanced degree in Fisheries, Aquaculture, Coastal and Marine Resources Management, Microbiology, Zoology/Biology, Marine Engineering, or related fields.
At least 5 years of professional experience working in aquaculture or mariculture.
Proven ability to motivate and coordinate teams.
Flexibility to work extended hours, including night shifts and weekends when necessary.
Experience in community or farmer mobilization.
Proficiency in data analysis, report writing, and academic publications.
Experience in marine fish hatchery management is a significant advantage.
Evidence of resource mobilization and experience presenting papers in national or international forums is a plus.
