Job Description
The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) is seeking a Humanitarian Coordination and Support Intern to join the Urban Economy Branch. This role is focused on supporting the development, implementation, and monitoring of programmes addressing urban crisis preparedness, response, recovery, and reconstruction, particularly in contexts of urban displacement and humanitarian emergencies.
Role Overview
The intern will contribute to analytical work, desk-based reviews, and the preparation of substantive outputs related to urban crises. This position offers an opportunity to support coordination and communication activities, helping to document lessons learned and innovations from country-level operations to inform strategic discussions and institutional learning.
Key Responsibilities
Programme Support: Contribute to the development, implementation, and monitoring of projects addressing urban crisis preparedness, response, and recovery.
Analytical Work: Perform desk-based reviews of UN-Habitat’s portfolio in crisis-affected countries to identify good practices and lessons learned.
Substantive Drafting: Support the creation of internal working documents, knowledge products, briefing notes, reports, and concept notes.
Research: Undertake background research related to urban crises, urban migration, and displacement.
Coordination & Communication: Assist in preparing outreach materials for internal and external audiences; support the organization and follow-up of meetings, including drafting agendas and tracking actions.
Operational Support: Provide ad hoc support for flagship events and inter-agency coordination processes.
Qualifications and Skills
Education: Must be currently enrolled in a graduate school program (second university degree or higher), in the final academic year of a Bachelor's degree, or a recent graduate with a Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD.
Fields of Study: Relevant disciplines include urban studies, humanitarian or development studies, social or political sciences, international relations, public information, business administration, or related fields.
Technical Proficiency: Must be computer literate in standard software applications, particularly the Microsoft Office Suite.
Competencies: Demonstrated interest in the United Nations and commitment to the ideals of the Charter. Ability to interact successfully with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds.
Experience: No professional work experience is required, but the field of study must be closely related to the internship type.
