Role Overview
The Grounds Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for overseeing all landscaping and grounds maintenance activities, ensuring high-quality standards and safe operational practices. This role requires strong leadership, expertise in landscape design and management, and a comprehensive understanding of safety procedures.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership and Coordination
- Staff Management: Supervise grounds maintenance staff to ensure all landscaping tasks are completed effectively and efficiently.
- Planning: Coordinate landscaping assignments, prioritizing tasks to align with overall program goals and timelines.
- Safety Leadership: Ensure team compliance with all operational safety standards and provide guidance on safe landscaping practices.
Landscape Management
- Design & Upkeep: Design, improve, and maintain landscaped areas to achieve visually appealing and functional outdoor spaces.
- Field Operations: Oversee installation, pruning, mowing, irrigation, fertilization, and pest control activities required for healthy and attractive landscapes.
- Inspection: Regularly monitor grounds to identify areas for improvement or repair.
Safety Compliance
- Protocol Enforcement: Promote and enforce safety protocols to address hazards associated with grounds maintenance, in compliance with applicable regulations.
- Training: Ensure team members follow best practices for the safe use of tools, equipment, chemicals, and machinery.
Resource Management
- Inventory Control: Manage materials, equipment, and tools, ensuring proper storage, usage, and inventory tracking.
- Procurement: Coordinate the procurement of supplies and oversee the servicing of groundskeeping equipment.
Reporting and Documentation
- Reporting: Prepare reports on landscaping activities, resource expenditures, and maintenance schedules.
- Record Keeping: Document safety inspections, team training sessions, and incidents as required.
Requirements
- Experience: At least five (5) years of experience in landscape design and management, overseeing grounds maintenance for large-scale facilities or sites.
- Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of landscaping techniques (plant care, irrigation, pest management).
- Safety Knowledge: Extensive knowledge of safety protocols related to grounds maintenance and equipment.
- Leadership: Proven skills in managing teams and coordinating multiple complex tasks.
- Problem Solving: Excellent attention to detail and proactive approach to issues.
- Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills for reporting and stakeholder coordination.
- Compliance: Ability to successfully pass contract medical requirements and maintain compliance for the duration of deployment.
