Mount Kenya University (MKU) is a fully fledged chartered university committed to a broad-based, wholistic and inclusive system of education. The University is seeking to recruit Full-Time Lecturers in Pediatrics to join the Medical School. The successful candidates will be responsible for delivering high-quality learning experiences for undergraduate and graduate students, contributing to curriculum development, and advancing the school's research portfolio.
Duties and Responsibilities
Curriculum Delivery: Adhere to teaching requirements as per the curriculum and deliver high-quality learning experiences for undergraduate and graduate students through prepared materials and class activities.
Assessment and Examination: Ensure timely student assessment through the preparation, moderation, administration, and marking of examinations, including Continuous Assessments Tests (CATs).
Quality Assurance: Ensure that content, methods of delivery, and learning materials meet defined learning objectives and are regularly reviewed for improvement.
Research and Supervision: Guide students at undergraduate and graduate levels in identifying research topics, concept development, proposal development, and supervision.
Academic Records: Maintain accurate student records, including registers, reports, and achievement data updated in the Academic Management System.
Research Funding: Identify sources of funding through grant writing to advance the research portfolio at the school.
Scholarly Activity: Engage in publishing papers and participating in workshops, conferences, and professional seminars.
Collaboration: Partner with other researchers internally, nationally, and internationally to establish research linkages.
Professional Development: Keep abreast of developments within the academic discipline to shape curriculum content and design.
Administrative Duties: Undertake administrative responsibilities as required, such as leadership of academic programs or committee memberships.
Qualifications and Requirements
Education: Must have a Masters of Medicine (MMed) in the relevant area of specialization from a recognized academic institution.
Basic Degree: Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB).
Experience: At least three (3) years of teaching and research experience at a university.
Professional Background: Relevant work experience in the industry.
Licensure: Must be registered and licensed to practice by the Relevant Professional Body.
Advanced Qualification: An earned PhD degree in the relevant area or being registered/registrable for a PhD will be an added advantage.
