Mount Kenya University (MKU) is a fully fledged chartered university committed to a broad-based, wholistic and inclusive system of education. The university is seeking a Full-Time Lecturer in Radiology to join the School of Medicine. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering high-quality learning experiences for undergraduate and graduate students, keeping the curriculum current with academic and professional developments, and guiding students through their research journeys.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Instruction and Curriculum: Deliver high-quality learning experiences for undergraduate and graduate students through the preparation of teaching materials, class methodology, and actual delivery of the curriculum. Ensure content and delivery methods meet defined learning objectives.
- Assessment: Adhere to teaching requirements as per the curriculum, administer Continuous Assessments Tests (CATs), and manage examination setting, moderation, administration, and marking in a timely manner.
- Research and Supervision: Guide students at undergraduate and graduate levels in identifying research topics, concept development, proposal development, and supervision. Actively engage in publishing papers and participating in workshops, conferences, and professional seminars.
- Funding and Collaboration: Identify sources of funding through grant writing to advance the school's research portfolio. Collaborate with internal and external researchers to establish research linkages.
- Administration: Maintain accurate student records (registers, reports, assessments) in the Academic Management System. Responsible for administrative duties as required, including leadership of academic programs and committee membership.
- Professional Development: Keep abreast of developments within the academic discipline or professional practice to shape curriculum content and design.
Requirements for Appointment
To qualify for appointment, a candidate must have the following:
- Masters of Medicine in Radiology (or relevant area of specialization) from a recognized academic institution.
- Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB).
- At least three (3) years of teaching and research experience at the university level.
- Relevant work experience in the industry.
- Registered and licensed to practice by the Relevant Professional Body (Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council).
- An earned PhD degree qualification in the relevant area from a recognized/accredited university OR being registered/registrable for a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree qualification will be an added advantage.
