Mount Kenya University (MKU) is a fully fledged chartered university committed to a broad-based, wholistic and inclusive system of education. The University is seeking to recruit a Full-Time Lecturer in Orthopedics for the Medical School. Reporting to the Dean, Medical School, the successful candidate will be responsible for delivering high-quality learning experiences, conducting research, and participating in academic administration.
Duties and Responsibilities
Deliver high-quality learning experiences for undergraduate and graduate students through the preparation of teaching materials, class methodology, and actual curriculum delivery in class.
Adhere to the teaching requirements as per the curriculum and administer Continuous Assessments Tests.
Manage examination setting, administration, and marking in a timely manner.
Keep abreast of developments within the academic discipline or professional practice of the Subject area to shape curriculum content, design, and delivery.
Ensure that content, methods of delivery, and learning materials meet defined learning objectives and are regularly reviewed for improvement.
Guide students at undergraduate and graduate levels in identifying research topics, concept development, proposal development, and supervision.
Maintain accurate student records, including registers, reports, student assessment, and achievement in the Academic Management System.
Identify sources of funding through grant writing to advance the research portfolio at the school.
Engage in publishing papers and participating in workshops, conferences, and professional seminars.
Collaborate with other researchers internally and internationally to establish linkages and contribute to the school's research objectives.
Perform administrative duties including leadership of academic programmes and membership in various committees.
Requirements and Qualifications
Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB).
Masters of Medicine in the relevant area of specialization (Orthopedics) from a recognized academic institution.
At least three (3) years of teaching and research experience at a university.
Relevant work experience in the medical industry.
Must be registered and licensed to practice by the Relevant Professional Body (Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council).
An earned PhD degree qualification in the relevant area OR being registered/registrable for a PhD will be an added advantage.
