Mount Kenya University (MKU) is a fully fledged chartered university committed to a broad-based, wholistic and inclusive system of education. The university is seeking a qualified Full-Time Lecturer in Ophthalmology to join the Medical School faculty.
Role Overview
Reporting to the Dean of the Medical School, the Lecturer will be responsible for delivering high-quality education to undergraduate and graduate medical students, conducting scholarly research, and participating in the administrative and academic development of the university.
Duties and Responsibilities
Instructional Delivery: Adhere to the teaching requirements as per the curriculum. Deliver high-quality learning experiences for undergraduate and graduate students through the preparation of teaching materials, class methodologies, and actual delivery of the curriculum.
Assessment and Examination: Administer Continuous Assessments Tests (CATs). Responsible for examination setting, moderation, administration, and marking in a timely manner.
Curriculum Development: Keep abreast of developments within the academic discipline or professional practice of Ophthalmology to shape curriculum content, design, and delivery. Regularly review learning materials to ensure they meet defined learning objectives.
Research and Supervision: Guide students at undergraduate and graduate levels in identifying research topics, concept development, proposal development, and supervision.
Research Output: Identify sources of funding through grant writing to advance the school's research portfolio. Engage in publishing papers and participating in professional workshops, conferences, and seminars.
Linkages and Collaboration: Collaborate with other researchers internally, nationally, and internationally to establish research linkages and contribute to school objectives.
Administrative Duties: Ensure accurate student records (registers, reports, assessments) are updated in the Academic Management System. Undertake administrative duties such as leadership of academic programmes or committee membership when required.
Requirements and Qualifications
Education: Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB).
Specialization: Master of Medicine in a relevant area of specialization (Ophthalmology) from a recognized academic institution.
Experience: At least three (3) years of teaching and research experience at a university level.
Industry Experience: Relevant work experience in the medical industry.
Professional Registration: Must be registered and licensed to practice by the Relevant Professional Body.
Additional Advantage: An earned PhD degree qualification in the relevant area or being registered/registrable for a PhD will be an added advantage.
