Mount Kenya University (MKU) is seeking a qualified Full-Time Lecturer in Oncology for its Medical School. This role is intended for an academic professional who will deliver high-quality learning experiences for both undergraduate and graduate students, keeping abreast of developments in the oncology field to shape curriculum content and design. The position reports to the Dean, Medical School and involves a blend of instruction, student assessment, research supervision, and administrative duties to promote the university's mission of inclusive education.
Duties and Responsibilities
Teaching and Instruction: Adhere to teaching requirements as per the curriculum and deliver curriculum content in class using effective methodologies and high-quality learning materials.
Examination and Assessment: Oversee the administration and marking of Continuous Assessments Tests (CATs), as well as the setting, moderation, and marking of final examinations.
Curriculum Development: Review and update course content and methods of delivery to ensure they meet defined learning objectives.
Research and Supervision: Guide undergraduate and graduate students in research topic identification, concept development, proposal development, and supervision. Identify funding sources through grant writing and engage in publishing academic papers.
Records Management: Maintain accurate student records, including registers, reports, and assessments in the Academic Management System.
Collaboration: Participate in research linkages internally and internationally to contribute to the school's research objectives.
Administration: Undertake administrative duties as assigned, including committee memberships or leadership of academic programs.
Requirements for Appointment
Master's Degree: Masters of Medicine in a relevant area of specialization from a recognized academic institution.
Bachelor's Degree: Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB).
Experience: At least three (3) years of teaching and research experience at a university.
Professionalism: Relevant work experience in the industry and must be registered and licensed to practice by the relevant professional body.
Doctorate (Advantage): An earned PhD degree in the relevant area OR being registered/registrable for a PhD is an added advantage.
