Mount Kenya University (MKU) is a fully fledged chartered university committed to a broad-based, wholistic and inclusive system of education. The university is seeking to recruit a Full-Time Lecturer in Mycology for its Medical School. This role involves delivering high-quality education to undergraduate and graduate students, conducting impactful research, and contributing to the administrative and academic growth of the university.
Duties and Responsibilities
Curriculum Delivery: Adhere to the teaching requirements as per the curriculum. Deliver high-quality learning experiences for undergraduate and graduate students through the preparation of teaching materials, class methodology, and actual delivery in class.
Assessment: Administer Continuous Assessments Tests (CATs). Handle examination setting, administration, and marking in a timely manner.
Curriculum Development: Keep abreast of developments within the academic discipline to shape curriculum content, design, and delivery. Ensure learning materials meet defined objectives and review them for improvement.
Research and Supervision: Guide students at undergraduate and graduate levels in identifying research topics, concept development, proposal development, and supervision. Identify sources of funding through grant writing and engage in publishing papers.
Professional Engagement: Attend, participate, and present papers in workshops, conferences, and professional seminars. Collaborate with internal and external researchers to establish linkages.
Administration: Maintain accurate student records (registers, reports, assessments) in the Academic Management System. Perform administrative duties including leadership of academic programmes and committee memberships.
Requirements and Qualifications
Education: Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) and a Masters of Medicine in a relevant area of specialization from a recognized academic institution.
Experience: At least three (3) years of teaching and research experience at a university level.
Industry Experience: Relevant work experience in the industry is required.
Professional Licensure: Must be registered and licensed to practice by the Relevant Professional Body.
Advanced Qualification: An earned PhD degree in the relevant area OR being registered/registrable for a PhD will be an added advantage.
