Mount Kenya University (MKU) is seeking a qualified and experienced Full-Time Lecturer in Internal Medicine to join the School of Medicine. The role is centered on promoting human resource development through high-quality teaching, research, and academic leadership. The successful candidate will deliver curriculum for both undergraduate and graduate students, guide research initiatives, and contribute to the administrative excellence of the medical school.
Key Responsibilities
Instructional Delivery: Adhere to teaching requirements as per the curriculum and deliver high-quality learning experiences for undergraduate and graduate students. This includes preparing teaching materials and class methodologies.
Assessment & Examination: Manage the administration of Continuous Assessments Tests (CATs), as well as the setting, moderation, administration, and marking of examinations to ensure timely student assessment.
Research & Supervision: Guide students at undergraduate and graduate levels in identifying research topics, concept development, proposal development, and supervision. Identify funding sources through grant writing and collaborate with national and international researchers.
Curriculum Development: Keep abreast of developments within the academic discipline of Internal Medicine to shape curriculum content and design, ensuring materials meet defined learning objectives.
Record Management: Maintain accurate student records, including registers, reports, student assessments, and achievements within the Academic Management System.
Academic Engagement: Engage in publishing papers and participating in workshops, conferences, and professional seminars.
Administrative Duties: Undertake administrative responsibilities such as leadership of academic programs and membership in various university committees.
Requirements & Qualifications
Education: Must hold a Master of Medicine (MMed) in Internal Medicine or a relevant area of specialization from a recognized academic institution.
Basic Medical Degree: Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB).
Experience: At least three (3) years of teaching and research experience at a university level.
Professional Registration: Must be registered and licensed to practice by the relevant professional body (e.g., KMPDC).
Industry Experience: Relevant work experience in the medical industry.
Added Advantage: An earned PhD degree in the relevant area or being registered/registrable for a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree.
