Mount Kenya University (MKU) is a fully fledged chartered university committed to a broad-based, wholistic and inclusive system of education. The university is seeking a Full-Time Lecturer in General Surgery to join the Medical School. Reporting to the Dean, the successful candidate will be responsible for delivering high-quality learning experiences, conducting research, and providing academic leadership within the surgery department.
Duties and Responsibilities
Curriculum Delivery: Adhere to teaching requirements as per the curriculum and deliver high-quality learning experiences for undergraduate and graduate students through the preparation of teaching materials and class delivery.
Assessment: Administer Continuous Assessments Tests (CATs), set examinations, and ensure timely marking and moderation of student assessments.
Academic Quality: Keep abreast of developments within General Surgery to shape curriculum content and design, ensuring learning materials meet defined objectives.
Research and Mentorship: Guide undergraduate and graduate students in identifying research topics, concept development, and proposal supervision.
Record Keeping: Ensure accurate student records, including registers, reports, and assessments, are updated in the Academic Management System.
Resource Mobilization: Identify sources of funding through grant writing to advance the research portfolio of the school.
Publication: Engage in publishing papers and actively participating in workshops, conferences, and professional seminars.
Collaboration: Partner with other researchers internally and internationally to establish research linkages.
Administration: Undertake administrative duties as assigned, including leadership of academic programmes or committee memberships.
Qualifications and Requirements
Master’s Degree: Masters of Medicine in General Surgery or a relevant area of specialization from a recognized academic institution.
Basic Medical Degree: Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB).
Experience: At least three years of teaching and research experience at a university level.
Industry Experience: Relevant work experience in the medical/surgical industry.
Professional Registration: Must be registered and licensed to practice by the Relevant Professional Body.
Preferred: An earned PhD degree in the relevant area or being registered/registrable for a PhD will be a significant advantage.
