Mount Kenya University (MKU) is a fully fledged chartered university committed to a broad-based, wholistic and inclusive system of education. The university is currently seeking a dedicated and qualified Full-Time Lecturer in Biochemistry to join the Medical School. This role involves delivering high-quality education, engaging in impactful research, and contributing to the academic excellence of the institution. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching undergraduate and graduate students, supervising research, and participating in the school's administrative and development activities.
Duties and Responsibilities
Teaching and Curriculum Delivery: Adhere to the teaching requirements as per the curriculum. Deliver high-quality learning experiences for undergraduate and graduate students through the preparation of teaching materials, class methodology, and actual delivery.
Assessment and Examinations: Administration of Continuous Assessments Tests (CATs). Ensure timely student assessment through the setting, moderation, administration, and marking of examinations.
Student Mentorship and Research Supervision: Guide students at undergraduate and graduate levels in identifying research topics, concept development, proposal development, and supervision.
Academic Record Management: Ensure that accurate student records, including registers, reports, student assessment, and achievement are updated in the Academic Management System.
Research and Publication: Engage in publishing papers as well as attending, participating, and presenting papers in workshops, conferences, and professional seminars.
Funding and Linkages: Identify sources of funding through grant writing to advance the research portfolio. Collaborate with other researchers internally, nationally, and internationally to establish research linkages.
Professional Development: Keep abreast of developments within the academic discipline or professional practice of the subject area to shape curriculum content and design.
Administrative Duties: Responsible for administrative duties when called for, including leadership of academic programmes, membership of committees, or school management.
Requirements and Qualifications
Medical Background: Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) is mandatory.
Education: Masters of Medicine in relevant area of specialization from a recognized academic institution.
Experience: At least three years of teaching and research experience at a university.
Industry Experience: Relevant work experience in the industry.
Professional Registration: Must be registered and licensed to practice by the relevant Professional Body.
Advanced Degree: An earned PhD degree qualification in the relevant area OR being registered/registrable for a PhD will be an added advantage.
