AfriCatalyst is seeking a Finance and Administration Consultant to provide part-time support for its East and Southern Africa Office in Nairobi, Kenya. This 12-month interdisciplinary engagement aims to strengthen and execute local finance, administration, and operational compliance systems. The role requires an average level of effort of three (3) days per week, with scheduling to be coordinated with the management team.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Recordkeeping and Bookkeeping
Support the maintenance and organization of accurate financial records in compliance with AfriCatalyst policies and Kenyan regulatory requirements.
Implement and improve practical financial monitoring and recordkeeping systems.
Ensure completeness and proper documentation of financial transactions for audit readiness.
Coordinate with local tax and accounting advisors by sharing documentation and reviewing reports.
Provide ad-hoc assistance to the Senegal office as needed.
Procurement and Contracting Systems
Localize and operationalize procurement policies within the Kenyan operating environment.
Provide administrative support for procurement processes and vendor documentation.
Maintain and organize procurement and vendor records.
Systems Strengthening and Operations
Develop and implement practical standard operating procedures (SOPs) for finance, procurement, contracting, and administration.
Improve administrative and financial systems to ensure operational effectiveness and compliance.
Administrative and Budgeting Support
Coordinate activities related to finance and operations as requested.
Support budgeting processes through administrative documentation and coordination.
Assignment Coordination
The Consultant will report to the Bureau Chief for East and Southern Africa (Nairobi) and the Senior Finance Manager in Dakar (Senegal). On-site engagement at the Riverside office in Nairobi is expected at least once per week. The consultant will maintain detailed service records and submit monthly timesheets for invoicing.
Qualifications and Experience
Required: Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field.
Required: At least 3–5 years of relevant professional experience in finance, administration, or operations.
Experience in financial documentation, compliance processes, and audit preparation.
Strong organizational skills and high attention to detail.
Ability to work independently and coordinate across international teams.
Demonstrable self-starter mindset and strong interpersonal skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (specifically Excel).
Desirable: Experience with ERP/CRM software and familiarity with IFRS.
Desirable: Knowledge of Kenyan service taxation requirements.
Desirable: Professional proficiency in Kiswahili.
