West Indian Ocean Cable Company (WIOCC) is seeking a Field Technician - MBS. The successful candidate will assist field support, resolve incidents, and assigned problems, install, maintain and manage network equipment. The role reports to the Regional Operations Manager.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Provide 24/7 field assistance, on-call support, out of hours, and night / weekend / public holidays working as required
Proactively monitor equipment and facilities
Assist with network installation, testing and commissioning, bringing into service, and integration
Handle cross connects and jumping
Assist in maintaining records, inventory, and spares
Assist in receiving equipment, bench testing, storage, and RMA return handling
Assist with incident and problem resolution as directed by NOC / TAC
Provide Service Desk cover as required
Assist the Service Manager as directed
Assist with technical shareholder support / shareholder consultancy and sales support
Assist with network quality and performance management
Assist with creation of ad hoc reports as needed
Assist other departments and projects as requested by the Programme Manager
Drive company vehicles as required
Adhere to all company policies and procedures
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field
CCNA, Cisco, MikroTik, and Fiber Optic certifications are highly desirable
Proficiency in routing protocols: OSPF, EIGRP, BGP, MPLS
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Valid driver’s license
Experience and Skills
3+ years of relevant work experience in the telecommunications industry
Knowledge of platforms including OTN, DWDM, SDH, and Data (Ethernet, IP/MPLS, OSPF, BGP)
Knowledge in supporting transmission and switching equipment from leading manufacturers (e.g., MikroTik, Juniper, Tejas Networks, etc.)
Ability to use systems effectively to record information accurately and concisely in a timely manner
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and solve problems in a fast-paced environment
Excellent communication and soft skills, including the ability to listen and follow instructions
