Job Description
The International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF) is a global service provider and a leading advocate of sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) for all. We are a world-wide movement of national organisations working with and for communities and individuals.
The purpose of this job is to contribute to IPPF’s global technical leadership in quality comprehensive service delivery (including HIV) and external communications. The advisor will play a critical role in reorienting IPPF's communications to reflect Member Association (MA) and community priorities, ensuring global work is understood through the stories and voices of those closest to the issues.
Key Responsibilities and Deliverables
Strategic Communications: Reorient IPPF’s communications to reflect MA and community priorities. Build insight into how key stakeholders use digital and traditional media.
Internal Collaboration: Strengthen collaboration across Global Comms, Voice, and Media teams and act as the key interlocutor for the US-based Individual Giving team.
Visibility and Presence: Increase IPPF’s external presence and visibility by enabling larger, more strategic communications outputs and supporting participation in global conferences.
Content and Media Management: Create and support content for media and social platforms, linking external stories to internal engagement.
Narrative Leadership: Champion timely, values-driven voice and act as the key liaison with the Opposition and Winning Narratives team using expertise in cognitive linguistics.
Internal Transformation: Drive internal communication transformation by supporting the CVM team to modernise approaches, advising on risks and security.
Identity and Rebranding: Lead collaboration with the Identity Initiative, ensuring the Charter and rebrand implementation come to life.
Crisis Management: Work with the Director, Solidarity for Change and Voice on rapid, credible crisis communications messaging.
Safeguarding: Promote and uphold safeguarding, meeting all reporting and monitoring responsibilities to support a safe environment.
Qualifications and Experience
Education: BA/BSc/HND qualification in Communications, Media, or a related field.
INGO Leadership: Proven experience leading an International Non-Governmental Organisation (INGO) into the public arena to increase visibility.
Global Operations: Experience working across various time zones, cultures, and diverse digital environments.
Crisis Communications: Demonstrated experience in contributing to crisis communications and/or rapid response communications.
Fundraising Support: Experience developing communication approaches that support income generation and donor relations.
Internal Mobilisation: Skilled in mobilising internal communities during high-pressure or time-sensitive issues.
Inclusive Perspective: Lived experience of a marginalised group is highly welcomed and valued.
Essential Skills
Ability to anticipate emerging issues and prioritise effectively within non-hierarchical structures.
Exceptional verbal and written communication skills—assertive, diplomatic, and audience-focused.
Proficiency in translating technical or rights-based issues into accessible public messages.
Strong understanding of performance metrics and data analysis to guide decision-making.
Expertise in digital and social media platforms, including emerging technologies like AI.
Fluency in English is required; knowledge of French, Arabic, or Spanish is an advantage.
