Safaricom is looking for an Engineer – Transport Support to manage and maintain its transmission networks. The role involves complex fault management, network optimization, and the implementation of designs across various transport domains including Optical, IPRAN, and Synchronization networks.
Responsibilities
Uphold the company code of conduct, policies, and procedures, ensuring integrity and accountability.
Adhere to safety, health, and wellbeing policies and guidelines in all actions.
Perform complex fault management on Optical, ipRan, and Synchronization networks within SLAs and support complex cross-domain faults.
Resolve all incidents to closure, escalate unresolved incidents to vendors, and manage escalation until Root Cause Analysis (RCA) is provided by the vendor as per SLA.
Run transmission network trials, equipment/system parameter checks, and evaluation and subsequent recommendations for approval and adoption of new equipment/technologies.
Participate in the formulation of high- and low-level designs of new transport systems (HLD & LLD) in the Optical network, IPRAN, and IP core domains.
Work with other internal teams in resolution of faults impacting Business IT systems such as M-PESA, Billing, and Payment aggregator.
Ensure proper synchronization of all network elements and perform maintenance of the network clocks.
Drive operational excellence projects to drive improvements in transmission network quality and reliability.
Timely and effective resolution of all incident tickets as per the SLA (Fault resolution process and SLA).
Effective implementation and planning of change requests in Optical, ipRan, and Synchronization networks.
Ensure newly accepted IPCORE network elements are 100% functional with all modules tested, without alarms, and are monitorable from SOC.
Active participation and resolution of quality-related cases.
Resolve all identified issues on NMS within 8 hours from detection.
Ensure all IPCORE services are implemented with 100% accuracy on availability targets.
Maintain overall CORE Network Elements availability and reliability of greater than 99.99% in a year.
Ensure all NMS operating with full FCAPS functionalities with at least 99.99% availability and accurate weekly backups.
Qualifications
BSC degree in Electrical, Electronics, Telecommunications, or IT.
At least 2 years technical experience in supporting transmission networks, preferably in a Service Provider environment or equivalent.
Experience working with various transport technologies (such as OTN-ASON, WDM-ASON, SDH, IPRAN Microwaves) and conversant with network synchronization techniques.
Good working knowledge of IP networking. Certification in either CCNA, CCNP, HCNA, or HCNP preferred.
Strong technical analysis, robust troubleshooting, and problem resolution skills.
Experience in outside plant fiber, issue identification, and maintenance.
Thorough knowledge in IP network performance monitoring and optimization tools.
Network design, implementation, and support experience, including working knowledge of IPv6 addressing and segment routing.
