The position holder will be responsible for the end-to-end support for all Operations Support Systems (OSS) monitoring, network, probing, and Customer Experience systems. Reporting to the Manager – Operations Support Systems (OSS), the role involves the digitization of OSS processes, support for network management systems (Umbrella Systems), and managing service, security, and access. You will be responsible for troubleshooting escalated issues from first-level support to resolution, ensuring system uptime, and maintaining service availability across the OSS ecosystem.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide end-to-end proactive monitoring of operations support systems and maintenance.
- Manage level two and level three incident and problem management.
- Ensure all faults reported are resolved within agreed timelines and that tickets are thoroughly documented.
- Implement proactive measures to ensure maximum system uptime.
- Support and manage database systems including MySQL, PostgreSQL, MSSQL, Oracle, and NoSQL.
- Work in heterogeneous environments supporting OS like Windows servers, RHEL, VMware, and FusionSphere.
- Remediate identified vulnerabilities within OSS systems according to SLA requirements.
- Maintain Security Baseline standards and manage policy controls for users.
- Implement and monitor capacity for systems, probes, SoC, and CEM systems in accordance with Safaricom standards.
- Oversee capacity utilization, backup/restore procedures, and Business Continuity Plans (BCPs).
- Lead regular vendor support review meetings and participate in internal and external audits.
- Retire legacy systems and drive the adoption of new systems.
- Develop and execute automation scripts and maintenance jobs.
- Maintain asset registers for both IT and Telco infrastructure.
- Develop and maintain cloud solutions and implement data pipelines (ETL) to inform strategic goals.
- Automate 3P (Platforms, Processes, People) workflow journeys for OSS FCAPS to enhance real-time monitoring and user experience.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Telecom Engineering, Electrical & Electronics Engineering, or IT.
- Minimum of 5 years working experience in a busy heterogeneous IT environment.
- At least 3 years of experience must be within a GSM environment.
- Deep working knowledge of LAN/WAN principles and Linux operating systems.
- Experience with IoT, NFV, SDN, Big Data, and Microservices.
- Proficiency in Restful Open APIs, Android, iOS, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, SQL, NoSQL, XML, JSON, YAML, Perl, Python, Bash Scripting, and Java.
- Machine learning and AI skills for predictive, proactive, and cognitive maintenance.
- Knowledge of development tools (Python, Java, VB.NET, or C#) and visualization tools (PowerBI, Tableau, Qlik Sense).
- Solid understanding of Microservices architecture and various database management systems.
