The Education Officer will manage and implement a delegated portfolio of Education projects (activities, budget, and project documentation) as delegated from the line manager in line with proposals, strategies, and donor requirements, ensuring high technical quality. The role involves overseeing Basic Education, youth training, and teacher training programs, coordinating with various stakeholders including the Ministry of Education and community leaders in the Kakuma region.
Key Responsibilities
Manage and implement delegated portfolio of CC (Education) projects, including activities, budget and project documentation, ensuring high technical quality.
Provide regular progress reports to the line manager/PM and the Education Specialist.
Ensure adherence with NRC policies, tools, handbooks, and guidelines.
Prepare and develop status reports as required by management.
Ensure proper filing of documents.
Identify and target beneficiaries most in need while exploring new methodologies for assistance.
Promote and share ideas for technical improvement.
Participate in Education working group meetings, workshops, and conferences at the Area Office and County level.
Plan, monitor, and implement all funds related to Basic Education, youth training, and Teacher’s training, including providing technical support to project officers.
Coordinate assessments, progress tracking, and sensitization/mobilization at the field level.
Develop and submit timely activity plans and weekly, monthly, and annual reports.
Assist in the development of Education operational plans, proposals, budgets, and narratives.
Monitor, evaluate, and ensure Education activities are consistent with plans and NRC’s standards.
Ensure timely procurement and distribution of educational training modules, materials, and equipment.
Provide on-the-job training for project assistants to improve service delivery.
Support capacity building of the Ministry of Education, BOMs, teachers, and community stakeholders.
Liaise daily with the Ministry of Education in Turkana West Sub County and County government authorities.
Represent NRC in Education working groups and inter-agency meetings.
Requirements and Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Education, Social Sciences, Project Management, or a related field.
Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in project management or coordination, preferably in the education sector.
Demonstrated experience working on education projects focused on equity and inclusion.
Strong knowledge of Kenya’s education system and policies, especially at the primary level.
Proven ability to work with diverse stakeholders including government and NGOs.
Practical experience in planning and executing education projects in humanitarian contexts for at least 3 years.
Excellent communication skills in English and Kiswahili.
Sound knowledge of Human Rights and Humanitarian Protection principles.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
