Role Outline
The Driver Lead is responsible for planning, managing, and coordinating all Heavy Goods Vehicle (HGV) drivers’ activities in Kenya. The primary objective is to ensure cost-effective and high-quality service delivery to both internal and external clients in alignment with the DHL Supply Chain strategy.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Management
Ensure both internal and external customers are treated with respect by drivers and receive the highest possible level of service.
Maintain availability of competent drivers to meet customer requirements consistently.
Lead and manage a team of drivers, acting as the principal operational liaison between DHL supply chain management and the team.
Appropriately handle customer grievances or queries related to HGV drivers.
Build trusted relationships with control tower, workshop, and operation colleagues to ensure efficient execution of driver duties.
Appraise management on general driver activities, challenges, and outcomes on a day-to-day basis.
Work closely with the driver trainer to maintain safety and efficiency standards.
Observe and enforce all DHL supply chain statutory and industry best practice obligations tied to driver management.
Ensure all delivery paperwork (briefing/debriefing reports, preposition checklists, weekly time sheets) is checked and filed or forwarded appropriately.
Evaluate driver violation reports and take appropriate corrective measures.
Ensure compliance with company and local statutory obligations including health and safety, quality, and Business Continuity Management (BCM).
Design driver duty rosters to maximize availability while ensuring appropriate rest periods and managing costs (e.g., 6th and 7th-day costs, allowances).
Develop a culture of respect and high performance, utilizing EOS (Employee Opinion Survey) action plans and MATT updates.
Administer and report performance measurement of drivers, including providing data for the driver incentive scheme.
Monitor and propose corrective/preventive measures against events or actions posing operational or financial risks to vehicular assets, consignments, and fuel.
Drive KPIs to ensure contract fulfillment and meet DHL’s operational expectations.

Qualifications and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Logistics or Supply Chain Management.
Minimum of 5 years of experience in logistics.
Proven experience in driver leadership and people management.
Experience in fuel tracking and project management.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a focus on continuous improvement.
Proficiency in MS Office and other relevant logistics management tools.
Deep understanding of supply chain needs, particularly within a logistics environment.
Verbal and written proficiency in English.
