Job Description
Kibabii University is seeking to recruit two (2) qualified individuals for the position of Driver I. The primary purpose of this role is to provide safe and efficient transportation services for university staff, students, and goods. The successful candidates will be responsible for the security and maintenance of the vehicles assigned to them, ensuring they are always in good working condition and compliant with all traffic and safety regulations.
Responsibilities and Duties
Vehicle Operation: Safely driving motor vehicles as authorized by the university management.
Maintenance & Repairs: Carrying out minor mechanical repairs including oiling and greasing. Conduct routine checks on cooling, oil, electrical, and braking systems, as well as tire pressure.
Safety & Security: Ensuring the security of the vehicle both on and off the road. Taking responsibility for the safety of passengers and any goods being transported.
Cleanliness: Maintaining the cleanliness of assigned vehicles at all times.
Technical Reporting: Detecting and promptly reporting any malfunctioning of vehicle systems to the relevant authority.
Record Keeping: Accurate maintenance of work tickets for the assigned vehicle.
Compliance: Ensuring the vehicle possesses all necessary documentation and relevant repair tools, and ensuring it is serviced according to schedule.
Requirements for Appointment
To be considered for this position, candidates must possess:
Education: Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) mean grade D+ (Plus) or an equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.
Licensing: A valid driving license free from any current endorsements for classes ABCE of vehicles an officer is required to drive.
Experience: Served in the grade of Driver II (Grade AD 3) or in a comparable position for a minimum period of three (3) years.
Certification: Passed the Occupational Trade Test Grade II.
Public Service: Possession of a valid Public Service Vehicle (PSV) certificate.
Training: Defensive driving certificate from the Automobile Association (AA) of Kenya or its equivalent qualifications from a recognized institution.
Professional Development: Evidence of attending refresher courses for drivers lasting not less than one (1) week every three (3) years.
Clearance: A valid Certificate of Good Conduct from the Kenya Police.
First Aid: Attended a First Aid Certificate course lasting not less than one (1) week from a recognized institution.
Proven Ability: Demonstrated merit and ability in both driving and maintenance of vehicles.
