The National Crime Research Centre (NCRC) is a state agency with the overriding objective of carrying out research into the causes of crime and its prevention. The findings are disseminated to Government Agencies charged with the administration of criminal justice to assist in policy formulation and planning. The Deputy Director, Crime Research, is a senior leadership position responsible for directing the research mandate of the centre.
Role Responsibilities
- Coordinate the development, implementation, and review of policies, standards, procedures, and programmes on crime research.
- Ensure quality assurance of crime research outputs.
- Undertake capacity building of researchers on quality research processes.
- Coordinate research into evaluating the impact of programmes pursued by agencies responsible for criminal justice administration.
- Coordinate the collation of all crime-related data.
- Oversee research into specific criminal activities, including crime causation, prevention, drug trafficking, and juvenile delinquency.
- Lead research into deviations from the criminal justice system to increase community awareness and responsibility in offender rehabilitation.
- Evaluate the efficacy and adequacy of criminal investigation and prosecution agencies, the penal system, and the treatment of offenders.
- Coordinate the preparation of comprehensive crime research reports.
- Monitor and evaluate the implementation of research recommendations.
- Liaise with other research bodies engaged in similar or related research functions.
- Plan and budget for the Directorate and oversee risk mitigation strategies.
Job Requirements and Qualifications
- A cumulative service period of fifteen (15) years of experience, with at least three (3) years at the grade of Senior Assistant Director, Senior Principal Research Analyst, or a comparable position.
- PhD in Statistics, Social Science, Sociology, Criminal Justice, Criminology, Psychology, Law, Political Science, Crime, or Public Administration from a recognized institution.
- Master’s degree in Statistics, Social Science, Sociology, Criminal Justice, Criminology, Psychology, Law, Political Science, Crime, or Public Administration from a recognized institution.
- Bachelor’s degree in Statistics, Social Science, Sociology, Criminal Justice, Criminology, Psychology, Law, Political Science, Crime, or Public Administration from a recognized institution.
- Completion of a Leadership course lasting not less than four (4) weeks from a recognized institution.
- A minimum of four (4) publications in peer-reviewed journals, books, or book chapters.
- A minimum of six (6) published research papers or reports.
- Proficiency in computer applications.
- Demonstrated high degree of professional competence, managerial and administrative capability.
