The Dean of Computer Engineering will primarily be employed as a teaching staff member on permanent and pensionable terms, but will hold the Dean of School position on a three-year renewable contract. Reporting to the DVC-Academics, Research and Student Affairs, the successful candidate will provide strategic leadership and academic oversight for the School.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Planning: Lead the strategic planning efforts for the School of Computer Engineering.
Academic Quality: Oversee teaching and evaluation, ensuring timely, up-to-standard, and comprehensive course coverage and the integrity of examinations.
Attendance Oversight: Monitoring class attendance by both students and staff.
Resource Management: Planning for and managing the allocation and optimal use of human and physical resources.
Sustainability & Growth: Ensuring School sustainability through student retention, cohort completion, progression rates, and growth of the student population.
Research & Innovation: Leading and inspiring research, innovation, and grant/proposal writing efforts within the School.
Partnerships & Internationalisation: Establishing industry collaborations, managed linkages, and leading internationalisation efforts including student/staff exchange programs.
Customer Service: Managing service delivery to students and staff, ensuring timely resolution of concerns.
Personnel Management: Overseeing performance management, attendance, leave, and discipline of staff.
Programme Development: Overseeing the development and review of market-reflective programmes.
Employability: Implementing strategies to continually improve graduate employability.
Requirements and Qualifications
A minimum of a relevant PhD, Masters, and Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Science, Engineering, Educational Technology, or a relevant field from an accredited and recognised University.
At least 3 years of teaching/research experience at the University level as a Lecturer or Research Fellow.
Evidence of publications as a Lecturer or Research Fellow.
Demonstrable leadership and administrative experience; experience as a Head or Chair of Department, programme leader, or postgraduate coordinator is highly desirable.
Experience supervising at least two (2) postgraduate students to completion.
Proven ability to attract research funds.
Evidence of participation in academic conferences, seminars, or workshops.
Contribution to University life through departmental participation, academic advising, and committee membership.
