Role Overview
The County Lead for Community Health in Baringo is responsible for coordinating Lwala's county-level engagement and representing the organization within the County Health Management Team. This role acts as a vital liaison between the Baringo County government and Lwala Community Alliance, ensuring that the organization's community health models are integrated into county plans, policies, and strategies. The lead oversees the implementation of health activities in partnership with Dandelion Africa, focusing on professionalizing Community Health Workers (CHWs), strengthening Community Health Committees (CHCs), and improving health facility systems.
Key Responsibilities
County Leadership and Governance
- Coordinate Lwala's county-level engagement and represent the organization in the County Health Management Team.
- Act as a liaison person between the County and Lwala Community Alliance.
- Facilitate weekly, monthly, and quarterly meetings to review progress and plan county activities.
- Support the integration of Lwala's model into county health plans, policies, and strategies.
- Periodically review program implementation plans and budgets while ensuring documented actions are escalated and addressed.
Implementation of Community Health Activities
- Provide technical support to Dandelion Africa across the four pillars of Lwala’s model: Professionalized CHWs, CHCs, Health Facility Strengthening, and Data Systems.
- Oversee CHW recruitment, training, and performance aligned with ProCHW standards.
- Strengthen CHC functionality to support local health planning, governance, and accountability.
- Support onsite mentorship, simulation sessions, and skills-based capacity building for frontline health workers.
- Promote data-driven clinical decision-making and champion integrated community-facility referral systems.
Program Management and Implementation
- Lead implementation of the MIHA work plan and ensure activity execution aligns with goals.
- Develop annual, quarterly, and monthly progress reviews in collaboration with Dandelion Africa.
- Maintain programmatic quality through updated SOPs and technical protocols.
- Manage program staff hiring, training, motivation, and appraisals.
- Support fundraising and resource mobilization initiatives.
- Prepare and submit program and donor reports as per schedules.
Financial Management and Reporting
- Jointly oversee Baringo program budgets with Dandelion Africa and monitor expenditures.
- Ensure adherence to financial policies and approve activity requisitions within delegated authority.
- Deliver timely and accurate financial reports while promoting cost-efficiency.
Documentation and Record Keeping
- Ensure consistent documentation of activities, training, and meetings.
- Support Dandelion to maintain accurate CHW, CHC, and facility records.
- Document lessons learned and promising practices; develop knowledge products for sharing.
Quality Assurance and Learning
- Maintain quality standards and collaborate with Research and Learning teams to track Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
- Conduct supervision visits to ensure high-quality service delivery and adherence to standards.
- Champion quality improvement initiatives and document case studies or best practices for internal and external sharing.
Relationship Management
- Foster strong partnerships with the County Department of Health, Dandelion Africa, and other stakeholders.
- Coordinate field visits for donors and leadership.
- Represent Lwala in external forums and maintain positive public relations.
Requirements and Qualifications
- A Master's or Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Environmental Health, Nursing, or Community Health Development.
- A Diploma in Project Planning and Management, Development Studies, or Community Development is considered a significant advantage.
