This Cost Accountant role is vital for monitoring and analyzing direct and indirect costs across various functions, including sourcing, production, logistics, and projects. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining accurate cost records, developing cost allocation models for multi-country operations, and ultimately contributing to informed strategic and pricing decisions.
Key Responsibilities
Cost Tracking & Analysis
- Monitor and analyse direct and indirect costs across sourcing, production, logistics and projects.
- Maintain accurate cost records for raw materials, labour, transport and overheads.
- Develop cost allocation models for multi-country operations.
Budgeting & Forecasting
- Support the preparation of annual budgets and rolling forecasts.
- Analyse cost trends to inform pricing and strategic decisions.
- Identify cost-saving opportunities.
Reporting & Compliance
- Prepare monthly cost reports and variance analyses for management review.
- Ensure compliance with internal controls and audit standards.
- Reconcile cost data with procurement, operations and finance teams.
Systems & Process Improvement
- Maintain and update cost-related data in the ERP system.
- Generate regular cost and margin reports.
- Recommend and implement cost control measures and process improvements.
Stakeholder Coordination
- Collaborate with production, procurement, logistics and project teams to gather and verify cost information.
- Communicate key insights to management.
- Support cross-country coordination on costing standards and best practices.
Requirements
- A Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field.
- CPA or ACCA certification preferred.
- A minimum of five (5) years’ experience in cost accounting, preferably in FMCG, Agriculture or Manufacturing.
- Strong proficiency in Excel, ERP systems and cost analysis.
- Experience with cross-border logistics in East Africa is an added advantage.
- Familiarity with export documentation and procedures is an added advantage.
