The County Government of Kitui is seeking to recruit Principal Accountants (2 Posts) to serve on a permanent and pensionable basis.
Role Overview
This is a senior position responsible for managing and coordinating accounting services within the division, ensuring financial transparency, accurate reporting, and adherence to public financial regulations.
Salary Scale and Terms of Service
Salary Scale: Ksh. 58,360 to Ksh. 90,200 per month (incremental salary scale).
Terms of Service: Permanent and Pensionable.
Duties and Responsibilities
Key responsibilities for the Principal Accountant include:
- Planning, directing, coordinating, and supervising areas of control within the accounting division.
- Managing the training and professional development of staff placed under supervision.
- Setting performance targets for the division to ensure optimal service delivery.
- Undertaking and executing ad hoc assignments related to accounting services as required.
- Assisting in the comprehensive preparation of final accounts for the County Government.
- Ensuring the safe custody and accountability of all government assets and financial records under their authority.
- Authorizing payments and signing of cheques, strictly adhering to the established financial limits set for the position.
- Ensuring the timely and accurate preparation of quality management reports relevant to the division's activities.
- Providing guidance and mentorship to subordinate officers to ensure achievement of set results.
Requirements for Appointment
Candidates must satisfy the following criteria:
- Must be a Citizen of Kenya.
- Must have served in the grade of Chief Accountant, Job Group ‘M’ or in a comparable and relevant position in the Public Service for a minimum period of three (3) years.
- Must possess a Bachelor’s degree in Commerce (Accounting or Finance option) and have successfully passed Part II of the Certified Public Accountants (CPA) Examination; OR must have passed Part III of Certified Public Accountants (CPA) Examination or its recognized equivalent.
- Must be registered with the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK).
- Must be registered with the Registration of Accountants Board (RAB).
- Must demonstrate merit and ability as reflected in past work performance and results.
