The Co-operative Bank of Kenya is seeking a successful jobholder to join their team as a Corporate Credit Analyst. The role involves analyzing credit proposals from business units, assessing risk, and making informed credit decisions within agreed Service Level Agreements (SLAs). The analyst is responsible for ensuring that all lending aligns with the bank's policies and regulatory requirements while training and advising business units on best practices in credit analysis.
Key Responsibilities
Analyze Corporate and Co-operatives credit proposals from business units and make credit decisions within agreed SLAs.
Recommend appropriate credit decisions to Credit approvers for final decision.
Escalate unusual issues or concerns to the Head – Corporate Credit Risk Analysis Department.
Maintain up-to-date records of all cases received, analyzed, and decisions through prompt updates of the tracker.
Advise the Credit Administration Department/business unit of decisions on the same day.
Keep abreast with economic, industry, and business trends to facilitate high-quality analysis of credit applications.
Document issues identified as causes of weak appraisals from business units regarding both policy and procedure.
Train business unit credit staff on credit analysis procedures.
Ensure all lending proposals are within the bank’s credit policy and lending guidelines, escalating any exceptions.
Ensure any policy breaches are properly authorized at the correct level.
Highlight necessary changes to the Bank’s credit policy and procedures to the Head – Corporate Credit Analysis Department.
Provide timely and clear responses to various business units as per agreed SLAs.
Strictly adhere to all regulations, statutes, standards, and internal processes as per relevant manuals and comply with external legislation regarding compliance.
Ensure all risk management requirements within your limit are addressed and escalated through defined channels where necessary.
Qualifications and Requirements
A university degree in a Business-Related field from a recognized university.
At least 8 years of banking experience in a credit-related function.
Thorough knowledge of the Banking Act, the Bank’s credit policy, Prudential guidelines, and lending guidelines.
Understanding of Environmental and Social Risk Management (ESRM).
Strong understanding of related financial products and services.
Excellent credit and financial analytical skills.
Ability to identify, analyze, condense, and articulate complicated ideas and findings briefly and clearly.
Good knowledge of business trends and the business environment.
General awareness of the Bank’s vision and focus, particularly regarding Business Development and risk management.
