The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global environmental authority that sets the world's environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system and serves as an authoritative advocate for the environment. UNEP is seeking a Coordination Officer at the P4 level to lead the logistical and operational planning for major intergovernmental sessions.
Responsibilities
Logistical Arrangements: Plan, coordinate, supervise, and carry out in a timely manner the logistical arrangements for the sessions of the United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA) and the Open-ended Committee of Permanent Representatives (OECPR).
Inter-agency Coordination: Lead the coordination with the United Nations Office at Nairobi (UNON), including the Division of Safety and Security (UNDSS) and other United Nations (UN) Agencies, of all aspects of UNEA and OECPR sessions, including registration, security, protocol, and conference services.
Communication & Branding: Coordinate with the Communication Division of UNEP on all communication and outreach activities and the design and branding of the meeting rooms.
Digital Content Management: Oversee the content management of the UNEA website and other platforms such as documentation platforms, mobile applications, and registration platforms.
Meeting Support: Coordinate with relevant entities on the multilingual live streaming of the meetings of UNEA and the OECPR sessions and uploading of related documentation on relevant platforms and websites.
Government Liaison: Coordinate with the relevant Ministries in the Government of Kenya and the Permanent Mission of Kenya to UNEP on logistical, protocol, and operational matters related to UNEA and OECPR sessions.
Subcommittee Planning: Support the planning and organization of the Committee of Permanent Representatives Subcommittee meetings.
Data Analytics: Collect and analyze data to identify trends or patterns and provide insights through graphs, charts, tables, and reports using data visualization methods to enable data-driven planning and decision-making.
General Duties: Perform other duties as required or requested.
Requirements
Education
Primary Requirement: Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in business administration, political science, international relations, or related area.
Alternative: A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
Desirable: Successful completion of both degree and non-degree programs in data analytics, business analytics, or data science.
Work Experience
Minimum Experience: Seven (7) years of progressively responsible experience in coordinating intergovernmental meetings and conference management in the United Nations system or similar international organizations.
Conference Management: Demonstrated experience in planning and delivering high-level, complex, multi-stakeholder meetings and conferences at the international level.
Logistics & Procurement: Experience managing end-to-end logistical, operational, and procurement arrangements for large-scale events involving Member States, intergovernmental organizations, and multiple institutional partners.
UN Procurement: Experience in procurement processes within the UN system or similar international organizations, including drafting terms of reference and overseeing vendor performance.
