Role Overview
Pwani University is seeking a Communications Officer to plan, coordinate, and implement the University’s internal and external communication strategies. The role aims to enhance institutional visibility, protect and promote the corporate image, support effective information flow, and strengthen stakeholder engagement in line with the University’s mission and strategic objectives. This position is offered on either Permanent and Pensionable terms or on a two-year renewable performance-based contract.
Responsibilities
Develop and execute comprehensive internal and external communication strategies to boost institutional visibility.
Protect and promote the University’s corporate image through proactive branding and media relations.
Facilitate effective information flow within the institution and strengthen engagement with various stakeholders.
Manage media relations and institutional branding as a Senior Corporate Communication Officer.
Write and edit high-quality content for diverse audiences including management, staff, students, and the general public.
Oversee and manage social media platforms, creating engaging content for blogs and the University website.
Organize and coordinate University events, exhibitions, and marketing activities.
Utilize strategic thinking, logical reasoning, and sound decision-making in handling communication matters.
Requirements
Academic Qualifications
Applicants must possess an earned Bachelor’s degree in Public Relations, Corporate Communications, Journalism, Mass Communication, International Relations and Diplomacy, Communication Studies, Communication and Media, or an equivalent qualification from a recognized and accredited institution.
Proficiency in computer applications is mandatory.
Professional Qualifications
Registered membership with a relevant professional body, such as the Public Relations Society of Kenya (PRSK), Chartered Institute of Public Relations (CIPR), or Media Council of Kenya (where applicable).
Technical certification in Public Relations, Corporate Communication, Media Relations, or Digital Communication / Social Media Management from a recognized institution.
Experience
A minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience as a Senior Corporate Communication Officer or in a comparable position.
Proven experience in handling corporate communications, public relations, and media within a public institution, university, or large organization.
Demonstrated expertise in managing social media platforms and creating digital content.
Previous experience in organizing and coordinating institutional events and marketing campaigns.
