The Collections and Recoveries Officer at Sumac Microfinance Bank is responsible for coordinating and ensuring appropriate and timely recovery actions on loans allocated, with the objective of bringing the bank to order. This role involves monitoring non-performing loans, managing securities, and negotiating with defaulting clients to optimize debt recovery success rates.
Key Responsibilities
Portfolio Monitoring: Conduct overall assessment and monitoring of allocated non-performing loans and Debt Recovery success rates, critically reviewing the amounts due in an efficient and cost-effective manner.
Security Management: Undertake periodic reviews of securities held against all non-performing facilities to ensure they are perfected and no dilution occurs during the debt recovery period.
Client Negotiation: On a case-by-case basis, assess the Bank’s positioning and its ability to recover amounts due without forced realization of securities where possible. This includes detailed negotiations with defaulting clients for facility restructuring.
Securities Realization: When the realization of securities is inevitable, ensure the process is handled procedurally to avoid delays through intermittent litigation and potential risk exposure.
Stakeholder Coordination: Plan and closely coordinate the debt recovery process with various stakeholders, including Lawyers, Valuers, and Auctioneers, to avoid undue delay and recovery cost escalation.
Reporting: Prepare and submit accurate and detailed reports from recovery assignments and make actionable recommendations to management.
Documentation: Carry out storage and proper filing of credit documentation and files.
Team Leadership: Provide guidance to onboard, train, set targets, and manage the performance of reporting staff to ensure achievement of set targets.
Financial Planning: Prepare write-off proposals on a quarterly basis.
Additional Duties: Perform any other related duties assigned in line with organizational goals and objectives.
Qualifications and Requirements
Education: University degree in a relevant field (BA/BSc/HND).
Experience: At least 3 years of working experience in a Collections and Recoveries role.
Interpersonal Skills: Result-oriented with excellent communication and social skills.
Planning: Forward planner with clear focus, maturity, and reliability.
Independence: Ability to work with minimal supervision.
Integrity: Honest and with very high integrity.
Teamwork: Excellent team spirit.
