The Clinical Trials Facility Manager at the Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI) will be responsible for leading the development, implementation, and review of the Clinical Trials Facility Departmental strategic and operational plans, budgets, policies, and procedures aligned with the Programme’s goals. The role provides strategic leadership, management, and supervision to the Clinical Trials facility teams, ensuring operational efficiency and significant contribution to the delivery of the Department's mandate.
Key Responsibilities
- Strategic Leadership: Oversee departmental operations and activities to ensure operational efficiency and delivery of the Department’s mandate.
- Regulatory Compliance: Monitor and document national and international regulatory or policy changes, incorporating them into the Programme’s relevant Policies and Procedures.
- Infrastructure Management: Oversee the maintenance, calibration, and availability of clinical trial-related infrastructure and equipment.
- Quality Assurance: Lead Research Quality Assurance (QA) and Monitoring by providing oversight in quality assurance processes and interventions in liaison with the research Governance team.
- Partnerships & Funding: Build and maintain internal and external strategic partnerships and collaborations, and support researchers in developing proposals and securing research funding.
- Project Management: Provide oversight of all Clinical Trials Facility Projects and initiatives to ensure completion as per agreed timelines.
- Decision Support: Support management in decision-making by providing strategic clinical trials advice, reports, and management briefs.
- Logistical Support: Facilitate grant-funded activities, feasibility assessments, and engagements from an operational and logistical perspective.
- Capacity Building: Oversee the design and implementation of departmental capacity building initiatives such as mentorships, trainings, orientations, and seminars.
- Innovation: Identify and implement new developments and approaches in clinical trials to ensure the Programme keeps abreast with emerging trends.
Vacancy Requirements
- Minimum PhD in Medicine, Science, Public Health, or any other relevant field from a recognized university.
- Certifications in Clinical Practice and Research Ethics from recognized institutions.
- A minimum of eight (8) years of overall experience, four (4) of which must be at a Senior Management level at a reputable organization.
- Proven experience in managing Clinical Trials in a regulated Health Research, grant-funded, and multidisciplinary environment.
- Certificate in Leadership and/or Management from a recognized institution.
- Demonstrated high levels of confidentiality and integrity.
- Excellent interpersonal, written, presentation, and communication skills.
- Ability to build strong and diverse effective teams, with skills in delegation and team motivation.
- Good fundraising, networking, and collaboration skills.
- Strong strategic thinking, leadership, and decision-making skills.
