Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI) is a State Corporation established through the Science and Technology (Amendment) Act of 1979. It is the national body responsible for carrying out health research in Kenya. KEMRI is seeking to recruit two Clinical Officers for its Kilifi site to provide high-quality clinical care to research participants and support clinical research activities.
Role Overview
The Clinical Officer will be responsible for the clinical care of research participants, ensuring adherence to study protocols, Good Documentation Practice (GDP), and Good Clinical Practice (GCP). The role involves specimen collection, participant recruitment, and supervision of study staff.
Key Responsibilities
Provide quality clinical care to research participants.
Maintain study documentation, adhering to Good Documentation Practice.
Supervise study staff and conduct study activities according to the protocol and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
Review clinical source documents and complete clinical assessment questionnaires.
Perform post-procedure monitoring, documentation, and follow-up assessments of participants.
Carry out specimen collection procedures in strict adherence to the study protocol and SOPs.
Assist in the consenting and recruitment of study participants.
Perform clinical procedures under the guidance of the site lead and/or the Principal Investigator (PI).
Attend and participate in study-related trainings and maintain up-to-date training logs.
Attend clinical skills training and updates when required.
Participate in study-related meetings and other site meetings as needed.
Perform any other duties as assigned by the site lead or Principal Investigator.
Requirements and Qualifications
Diploma in Clinical Medicine and Surgery (Mandatory).
Registration with the Clinical Officers Council of Kenya (Mandatory).
A minimum of three (3) years of experience in inpatient care (Mandatory).
Proficiency in Windows and Microsoft Office software (Mandatory).
Previous experience in clinical research (Added Advantage).
Recent clinical experience in pediatric care (Added Advantage).
Training in Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and Research Ethics (Added Advantage).
Ability to lead, supervise, and work within a team (Mandatory).
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (Mandatory).
Good writing and presentation skills (Mandatory).
Demonstrable excellent organizational and leadership skills (Mandatory).
Ability to work well in a multi-cultural team, prioritize, set, and meet objectives (Mandatory).
Flexibility, adaptability, multi-tasking, and high attention to detail (Mandatory).
