The County Government of Kisumu is seeking to recruit a Climate Change Officer to contribute to the county's environmental and climate resilience initiatives. This role involves managing natural resources, environmental data, and implementing strategies to mitigate and adapt to climate change within the region. Responsibilities
Developing and executing county-level climate change policies and action plans.
Conducting environmental impact assessments and monitoring audits in line with NEMA guidelines.
Utilizing GIS software to map environmental data and track climate trends for informed decision-making.
Coordinating with various stakeholders and professional bodies on environmental conservation and natural resource management.
Preparing comprehensive reports on climate change risks, mitigation progress, and environmental status within the county.
Requirements and Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in any of the following fields: Environmental Management, Natural Resource Management, Environmental Science, Meteorology, Forestry, Geography, or an equivalent qualification from a recognized university.
Registration with a relevant professional body is required.
GIS, research, and analytical skills will be an added advantage.
Certification in Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) or Environmental Audit (EA) by NEMA is an added advantage.
Candidates with foreign degrees must have them authenticated by the Commission for University Education (CUE).
