Taita Taveta University (TTU) is seeking a highly qualified Chief Technologist (Grade 12) specializing in Chemistry. Taita Taveta University is a young dynamic fully fledged newly chartered public University in Kenya, strategically located near Voi Town in Taita Taveta County. It is an Academic Centre of Excellence with a special focus on Mining and Mineral Processing Engineering.
Role Overview
The Chief Technologist will be responsible for overseeing laboratory operations, ensuring the functionality of advanced scientific equipment, and leading technical teams within the Chemistry department. The role requires a blend of advanced technical expertise in chemical sciences and strong leadership capabilities to manage the technical staff and facilities effectively.
Responsibilities
Manage the setup of laboratory facilities and supervise the installation, calibration, and troubleshooting of specialized laboratory equipment.
Design and run practical classes for students.
Provide leadership and supervision to technical staff within the department.
Ensure compliance with safety protocols and professional standards within the laboratory environment.
Maintenance and troubleshooting of laboratory machinery and equipment.
Maintain records and inventories of laboratory chemicals, equipment, and consumables.
Demonstrate exemplary work performance in all assigned duties.
Requirements and Qualifications
Must possess a Masters’ degree in a relevant area from a recognized institution (Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Industrial Chemistry, Applied Physics, Physics, Electronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Applied Biology, Botany, or Zoology) or its equivalent.
At least three (3) years of experience as a Senior Technologist I or in a comparable position.
Must have hands-on experience with Laboratory equipment.
Must have experience in designing and running practical classes.
Must have knowledge of setting up a Laboratory and equipment troubleshooting, installation, and calibration.
Must demonstrate strong leadership skills.
Must be computer literate.
Possess a valid Certificate of Good Conduct.
Must be registered with a relevant professional body.
Exemplary work performance record.
Terms of Service
The Terms of Service for the positions shall be on Permanent and Pensionable Terms.
