Role Overview

This is a senior role within the County Government of Kitui, offered on permanent and pensionable terms. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing leadership and coordination in the management and development of sports activities and programs across the county.

Salary Scale: Ksh. 50,610 x 2,350 – 52,960 x 2,550 – 55,510 x 2,850 – 58,360 x 2,750 – 61,110 x 2,920 – 64,030 x 3,080 – 67,110 p.m.

Duties and Responsibilities

The Chief Sports Officer will be responsible for the following key functions:

• Participating in articulating sports policy initiatives, programmes and activities.
• Liaising with sub-branches of Sports Federations, clubs and teams in conducting clinics on the set sports standards.
• Preparing and organizing teams for matches and championships.
• Coordinating coaching of teams, clubs, coaches, trainers, and sports administrators.
• Identifying and developing sports talent.
• Officiating in sports competitions.
• Sensitizing teams and clubs on cross cutting issues such as HIV/AIDS.
• Coordinating maintenance of inventory of sports tools, equipment and facilities.
• Addressing staff welfare matters.
• Participating in preparation of budget, work plans and sports highlights.
• Monitoring and evaluating sports programmes and activities.

Requirements for Appointment

For appointment to this grade, an officer must satisfy the following conditions:

1. Be a Citizen of Kenya.
2. Served in the grade of Senior Sports Officer for a minimum period of three (3) years.
3. Hold a Bachelor’s degree in any of the following disciplines: Physical Education, Sports Science or Leisure and Recreation Management from a recognized institution. OR
4. Hold a Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences with a Post-Graduate Diploma in Sports Administration and Management equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.
5. Possess a Certificate in Computer Applications from a recognized institution.
6. Demonstrated merit and ability as reflected in work performance and results.
