Role Overview
The Business Operations Manager is responsible for managing the Business Unit commercially and operationally, ensuring effective and efficient training of Guards and Supervisors, as well as planning, implementing, and overseeing the overall monitoring of security operations for the company.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the Security Solutions Business Unit commercially and operationally to deliver exceptional value to clients through intelligent/smart security solutions with a clear focus on service delivery and customer support.
- Proactively upsell and cross-sell the company’s full range of products and services by identifying customer needs, maximizing sales opportunities, and enhancing customer satisfaction and loyalty.
- Oversee day-to-day management and maturation of the security operations function including daily monitoring, management, and response to security control systems (including SIEM/Sentinel) and coordinates.
- Lead incident response, including vendor security issues, and manage incidents with up-to-date reports.
- Manage arrangements for deployment, relieving, transfers, and supervision of guards in respective zones.
- Conduct spot checks on Field officers and other operatives in respective zones.
- Visit scenes of incidents, make entries in the Occurrence Books (OBs), and ensure appropriate incident reports are prepared within 24 hours.
- Liaise with police and investigators on all matters involving incidents and investigations at client premises.
- Conduct surveys for security requirements requested by clients and make recommendations.
- Maintain regular contact with clients to ensure satisfaction with provided services.
- Provide leadership and direction for the operations team.
- Manage staff up-skilling within the department to meet current and planned outputs; build and maintain talent infrastructure and employee development by assessing capability, identifying gaps, and designing training programs.
- Support commercial and sales efforts, specifically bid and proposal development.
- Ensure compliance with operational processes and that operational strategies/initiatives are implemented across all Kenya operational areas in a timely and cost-effective manner.
- Assist the Training Team with specific assignment training requirements to ensure company meets client needs.
- Ensure operational efficiency and cost reduction in accordance with set parameters.
- Develop predictive yearly budgets and present them to the Head of Operations covering all command areas.
- Ensure operational areas operate within budget, including monitoring Supervisors regarding OT2, off days, etc.
- Demonstrate strong financial acumen through sound financial and commercial decision-making with regards to cost discipline, managing efficiency/productivity, pursuing revenue growth, and optimizing manpower.
Key Competencies and Qualifications
- Degree qualification (BA/BSc/HND).
- Security professional with a proven track record in security management, planning, and coordinating.
- Competence to carry out scope of work and prepare relevant documentation to support such schemes.
- Enthusiastic and committed approach with a track record of building strong, trusted relationships with colleagues and stakeholders at all levels.
- Sound working knowledge of security best practice and legislation affecting the security role.
- Strong management and leadership skills together with excellent communication, influencing, negotiating, and engagement skills.
- Intermediate level of IT skills with a very good working knowledge of MS Office packages.
- Very good knowledge of technology-driven security solutions as well as a willingness to continually upgrade that knowledge.
- Sound judgement and decision-making skills, with a hands-on, problem-solving approach, able to remain calm under pressure and take control of incidents; proactive and self-motivated.
- Ability to work as part of a team and lead teams.
- Experience writing procedures, drafting reports, preparing business cases, and compiling/adjusting requirements to meet shortfalls in staffing levels.
- Excellent planning and organization skills to meet deadlines and pay attention to detail, with a consulting mindset.
- Understanding of financial practices such as cost control and budgeting, demonstrating financial acumen in all decision making.
- Highest level of integrity, vigilant, and of sound judgement.
