SMEP Microfinance Bank Limited is a public limited company incorporated under the Companies Act and licensed under the Microfinance Act to offer banking services, focusing on Group banking, Retail banking, Church banking, Asset financing, and related services. The Business Development Officer (BDO 05/26) is responsible for driving growth in customer numbers, managing client relationships, and ensuring a healthy loan portfolio. The role involves marketing the bank's products, recruiting customers into groups, and facilitating the full lending process from evaluation to collection.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Marketing and Sales: Responsible for marketing the bank's products and services to potential and existing clients.
Customer Growth: Actively drive growth in customer numbers and ensure full adherence to the customer on-boarding policies and procedures.
Group Management: Facilitate the recruitment and registration of customers in existing and new groups.
Relationship Management: Manage customer relationships for both group and individual customers.
Training: Stimulate client training on SMEP policies, procedures, basic business skills, loans, and business management.
Credit Management: Responsible for customer loan evaluations and processing.
Portfolio Quality: Maintain a quality asset portfolio as per the bank's requirements.
Reporting: Prepare and submit timely daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly reports to the respective office holders.
Arrears Management: Ensure follow-up of defaulters and collection of arrears.
Record Keeping: Maintain proper record management for all customers.
Customer Service: Ensure customer retention through excellent customer service.
Key Qualities, Qualifications & Competencies
Values: Must be a practicing Christian who lives and upholds Christian values, with a passion to serve.
Academic Requirement: A minimum grade of C+ (plus) in KCSE.
Education: An undergraduate Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in Business-related courses from a recognized institution.
Technical Knowledge: Knowledge in Sales and Marketing, credit risk management, and credit lending is an added advantage.
Industry Experience: Relevant experience in the banking sector and a clear understanding of the microfinance industry are added advantages.
Computer Literacy: Proficiency in computers is mandatory.
Analytical Skills: Ability to analyze and interpret financial statements.
Soft Skills: Good interpersonal and communication skills with excellent customer service; a team player with the drive to improve performance; persuasive with strong recognition skills.
Work Ethic: Self-driven and able to work with minimum supervision.
