The Automation Technician is a key member of the Utilities team, responsible for the installation, operation, maintenance, and optimization of automation systems supporting Tatu City’s water supply and wastewater infrastructure. The role requires strong technical capability in PLCs, HMIs, control systems, and smart metering technologies to ensure system reliability, operational efficiency, and service continuity. The successful candidate will support day-to-day operations, diagnose system faults, and implement practical engineering solutions to enhance performance within a rapidly growing urban environment.
Key Responsibilities
System Installation & Commissioning: Install, configure, and commission automation systems for water and wastewater infrastructure.
Maintenance & Troubleshooting: Troubleshoot and repair faults in automated equipment and control systems; perform preventive maintenance and calibration.
Process Improvement: Work with engineers to design and improve automation processes and test/validate system functionality.
Technical Documentation: Implement site activities according to designs and standards, maintaining accurate site and as-built records. Prepare and review tender documents and technical specifications.
Asset Management: Maintain and update asset registers, maintenance logs, and other technical documentation for effective management and audits.
Smart Metering: Connect water meters to smart electricity meters for smart functionality; troubleshoot and resolve issues with smart meters and related communication equipment.
AMI Management: Manage and monitor the Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) platform and perform routine maintenance to ensure optimal performance.
Quality & Compliance: Conduct on-site verifications for meter readings, investigate utility theft or tampering, and manage inventory of metering materials.
Safety: Ensure adherence to relevant regulations, safety procedures, and environmental standards.
Requirements
Education: Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Automation, or a related field from a recognized institution.
Experience: At least three (3) years of experience in the design, operation, and maintenance of industrial automation systems.
Technical Skills: Demonstrated proficiency in PLCs, HMIs, and control systems.
Soft Skills: Strong problem-solving skills and high attention to detail.
Professional Affiliation: Membership with relevant professional bodies is an added advantage.
