The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is seeking an Associate Programme Management Officer at the P2 level. The officer will work with the Programme Coordinator to facilitate the development, implementation, and evaluation of assigned programmes and projects. This role involves monitoring and analyzing specific aspects of programme development, identifying issues, and recommending corrective actions to ensure successful outcomes. The officer serves as a critical link between various parties, ensuring follow-up actions are tracked and research is conducted to support operational activities.
Responsibilities
- Facilitate the development, implementation, and evaluation of assigned programmes and projects.
- Monitor and analyze programme implementation, identifying problems and recommending corrective actions.
- Conduct basic research, including collecting, analyzing, and presenting statistical data from diverse sources.
- Draft and compile information communication products such as press releases, media packets, reports, brochures, and newsletters.
- Provide substantive support for policy coordination and evaluation functions, including analyzing emerging trends.
- Assist senior officials with briefing notes, background papers, and talking points.
- Prepare summaries of articles and draft correspondence and sections of reports.
- Participate in survey initiatives, including the design and analysis of data collection tools.
- Support consultative meetings, conferences, and missions by proposing agendas, identifying participants, and handling logistics.
- Use data visualization methods (graphs, charts, tables) to provide insights for data-driven planning and decision-making.
Qualifications and Experience
- Education: Advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in Environmental Sciences, Business Administration, Management, Law, Economics, or a related field is required. A first-level university degree with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of an advanced degree. Successful completion of data analytics or data science programs is desirable.
- Experience: Minimum of two (2) years of progressively responsible experience in environmental project/programme management, strategic planning, or policy implementation is required.
- Senior Support: Experience providing coordination or advisory support to senior officials, including preparing briefing materials and presentations.
- Documentation: Proven experience in drafting, editing, and presenting high-quality technical, policy, and donor-facing documents.
- International Context: Demonstrated experience in developing and managing international environmental programmes, particularly multi-country initiatives in developing or transition economies.
- Desirable: Experience within the United Nations common system or a similar international organization, and one year of experience in data science or analytics.
