The University of Embu (UoEm) is looking to recruit an Associate Professor in Actuarial Science to contribute to its academic and research excellence. Established as a successor to the Embu Agricultural Staff Training (EAST) College, the University of Embu has a rich history dating back to 1947. This senior academic role is focused on advanced teaching, mentoring postgraduate students, and leading high-impact research within the department.
Key Responsibilities and Duties
- Deliver advanced lectures and teaching modules in Actuarial Science at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
- Provide academic leadership within the department and contribute to curriculum development.
- Supervise postgraduate research, specifically mentoring at least five (5) Masters and one (1) PhD student through to successful graduation.
- Maintain an active research profile, publishing scholarly articles in refereed journals.
- Spearhead the acquisition of external research grants to support departmental projects.
- Represent the university at learned conferences, seminars, and professional workshops.
- Participate in university administration and leadership activities as required.
- Continue to advance the field of Actuarial Science through ongoing research and innovation.
Requirements and Qualifications
- Experience: At least eight (8) years of university teaching experience, with a minimum of three (3) years served as a full-time Senior Lecturer.
- Publications: Minimum of 48 publication points, of which at least 32 points must be from articles in refereed scholarly journals published since appointment as a Senior Lecturer.
- Supervision: Successfully supervised at least five (5) Masters and one (1) PhD student to completion since becoming a Senior Lecturer.
- Research Grants: Proven record of securing at least two (2) research grants since appointment as a Senior Lecturer.
- Professional Engagement: Evidence of attendance and active contribution at learned conferences, seminars, or workshops.
- Leadership: Evidence of active participation or leadership in university activities.
- Documentation: Applicants must submit one (1) hard copy of the application package; failure to do so will result in disqualification.
