Role Purpose
To support the delivery of targeted business (non-medical) growth with the right parameters within the General Insurance sector, focusing on Broker Relationships, Corporate, and Public Sector segments.
Key Responsibilities
Business Development
- Broker Relationship Management: Manage broker relationships to deliver targeted premium outputs.
- Pipeline Management: Handle business pipelines, processing quotations, and transmitting them to brokers within established Service Level Standards (TATSs).
- Service Delivery: Draw up and operate SLAs with brokers for differentiated service delivery.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Adhere to interdepartmental service level standards in liaison with the underwriting team across branches.
- Cross-Selling: Champion cross-selling for corporate business and other special assignments as allocated.
- Market Intelligence: Collect market intelligence through research, publications, networking, and digital sources to stay abreast of market developments.
- Competitor Analysis: Assess market opportunities and competitor sales sources to influence business strategy.
- Knowledge Capital: Manage knowledge capital by collecting, categorizing, storing, and distributing market research results.
Financial Management
- Performance Metrics: Deliver financial parameters for Gross Written Premium (GWP), loss ratios, and cross-selling targets.
- Debt Management: Manage broker debt as per the established debt management standards.
- Expenditure Control: Manage and control expenditure for travel, events, and promotional items.
- Brand Management: Plan and allocate funds for brand management activities and promotional items as per the structured calendar.
Operations & Compliance
- Industry Knowledge: Keep up to date with relevant legislation and developments within the insurance industry that may have an impact on the Business Advantage.
- Regulatory Compliance: Coordinate compliance with regulatory requirements for brokers regarding licensing and onboarding as per ABC Third-party Standards.
Management Reporting
- Statistics: Prepare accurate production reports and other statistics for management reporting.
- Representation: Represent the department in the absence of the head of department in various business reporting forums.
Qualifications and Experience
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in a business-related field (Actuarial Science, B.Com Insurance, Business Administration) or Higher Diplomas in Business, Commerce, and Management Studies.
- Professional Certification: ACII, Diploma in Insurance (UK) or AIIK, Diploma in Insurance (Kenya), or significant progress toward these certifications.
- Experience: 7 – 10 years of sales management and business development experience in Insurance.
- Specialized Experience: At least 5 - 6 years of experience specifically in General Insurance, including a management role.
