Agroforestry Innovations Associate

The Agroforestry Innovations Associate will be part of our dedicated international agroforestry team and will support ten embedded agroforestry teams - one in each country program. This role reports to the Agroforestry Director and focuses on improving program impact and reach through the scoping, piloting, and scaling of new investments.

Role Purpose

You will work to develop and scale technical solutions that help smallholder farmers successfully grow trees, improving both the environmental and economic impact of One Acre Fund's programs across East Africa.

Key Responsibilities

• Innovation Management: Scope, pilot, and scale new investments to improve program impact and reach.
• Seedling Success: Developing solutions to improve seedling survival rates and building planning solutions to better support nursery managers.
• Technical Research: Researching and trialing sustainable socket alternatives and conducting site-species matching research (field and desk) to expand species diversity.
• Supply Chain Improvements: Implement improvements to tree seed supply systems and support tree tracking systems at the farm level.
• Operational Support: Provide short-term direct support to agroforestry operations in cases where team bandwidth isn't adequate, which could include high-touch operational support or short-term secondment.

Qualifications and Requirements

• Education: University or advanced degree in agroforestry, ecology, restoration, or related fields.
• Experience: 3+ years of leadership and demonstrated results in agroforestry, restoration, or related domains in Sub-Saharan Africa.
• Technical Knowledge: Familiarity with biodiversity projects or nature-based carbon projects is an additional advantage.
• Skills: Ability to manage operations, conduct research, and lead teams across diverse geographical contexts.
