Job Description
The University of Nairobi, established under the Universities Act 2012, is seeking an Adherence Counsellor to be based in Kiambu. This role is critical in providing professional counseling and support to patients, particularly those within HIV care programs, to improve treatment adherence and overall health outcomes. The successful candidate will operate within a public hospital HIV clinic setting, utilizing specialized techniques like motivational interviewing to build trustful relationships with diverse patient populations while maintaining rigorous clinical standards.
Responsibilities
Provide professional adherence counseling to patients enrolled in HIV care programs.
Build and maintain trustful, empathetic relationships with participants to support their adherence to treatment protocols.
Conduct accurate data entry and management using electronic health records (EHR) or similar clinical systems.
Apply motivational interviewing and specialized counseling techniques to engage effectively with patients.
Ensure all activities strictly adhere to Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and Human Subject Protection protocols.
Coordinate with the broader healthcare team to ensure holistic patient support and progress monitoring.
Requirements and Qualifications
A Degree or Diploma in Counselling, Psychology, or an equivalent qualification.
Minimum of one (1) year of experience in counseling or support roles within healthcare settings, with a preference for HIV care experience.
Prior experience working within an HIV clinic setup in a public hospital environment.
Mandatory current Certificate of Good Clinical Practice (GCP).
Mandatory current certificate in Human Subject Protection.
Must possess a valid practicing license from the Counsellors & Psychologist Board.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills for effective engagement with diverse populations.
Proficiency in clinical data management and documentation.
Experience in clinical studies is considered an added advantage.
