Job Description
The University of Nairobi is seeking an Adherence Counsellor for a position based in Siaya. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing psychological support and counseling to patients, particularly within HIV care settings. This role involves working closely with patients to ensure treatment adherence, managing clinical data, and maintaining professional standards in a public hospital environment.
Responsibilities
Provide professional counseling and psychological support to patients within healthcare settings.
Build and maintain trustful relationships with participants through empathy and strong interpersonal skills.
Perform data entry and management tasks using electronic health records (EHR) or similar clinical systems.
Monitor and support patient adherence to treatment plans, especially within HIV clinic setups.
Ensure all clinical and counseling activities comply with Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and Human Subject Protection standards.
Collaborate with medical teams to optimize patient care outcomes.
Requirements and Qualifications
A Degree or Diploma in Counselling, Psychology, or an equivalent qualification.
Minimum of 1 year of experience in counseling or support roles within healthcare settings, preferably in HIV care.
Prior experience working within an HIV clinic setup in a public hospital.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage diverse populations.
Proficiency in data entry and management using electronic health records.
A current Certificate of Good Clinical Practice (GCP) is mandatory.
A current certificate in Human Subject Protection is mandatory.
Must possess a valid practicing license from the Counsellors & Psychologist Board.
Additional training in adherence counseling or motivational interviewing techniques is beneficial.
Experience in clinical studies is considered an added advantage.
