Job Description
The University of Nairobi is seeking an Adherence Counsellor to provide psychological support and counseling within its healthcare settings, specifically focusing on HIV care. The successful candidate will work within a public hospital HIV clinic, engaging with diverse patient populations to improve treatment adherence and clinical outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
Provide adherence counseling and psychological support to patients in HIV care.
Work within a public hospital HIV clinic setup to engage effectively with participants.
Build trustful relationships with patients through empathy and strong interpersonal communication.
Manage data entry and maintenance using electronic health records (EHR) or similar systems.
Ensure all activities comply with Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and Human Subject Protection standards.
Participate in clinical studies as required.
Requirements and Qualifications
A Degree or Diploma in Counselling, Psychology, or an equivalent qualification.
Minimum of 1 year of experience in counseling or support roles within healthcare settings, preferably in HIV care.
Prior experience working within an HIV clinic set-up in a public hospital.
Current Certificate of Good Clinical Practice (GCP) is mandatory.
Current certificate in Human Subject Protection is mandatory.
Valid practicing license from the Counsellors & Psychologist Board.
Proficiency in data entry and management using electronic health records.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Empathy and strong interpersonal skills.
Additional training in adherence counseling or motivational interviewing is an advantage.
Experience in clinical studies is an added advantage.
