The World Bank Group is seeking a WBG Pioneer - Environmental and Social Development Intern to join their team in Nairobi. This internship provides an opportunity to support the Environmental and Social (E&S) team with project due diligence, project monitoring, and various E&S-related organizational initiatives.\n\n### Duties and Responsibilities\n\n#### E&S Due Diligence (ESDD)\n* Preliminary screening of E&S risks and impacts of a project, including RepRisk, IBAT, media, and CSO attention/human rights screening.\n* Inputting into ESDD-related documentation (early screening, Environmental and Social Review Summary, and project review committee).\n* Development and preparation of ESDD materials (questionnaires, agendas, site visit back-to-office reports).\n* Expert-specific support (social, biodiversity, labor, occupational health and safety, climate).\n* Reviewing client-submitted E&S documentation for completeness and quality.\n* Assisting in the preparation of Environmental and Social Action Plans (ESAPs).\n\n#### Monitoring of Projects\n* Reviewing Annual Monitoring Reports (AMRs) and preparing AMR review reports.\n* Drafting and reviewing self-evaluation reports.\n* Data analysis and assessment of the E&S portfolio, including trend identification and risk flagging.\n* Assisting in the preparation of portfolio-level reporting on E&S performance.\n\n#### Initiatives\n* Development of templates for ESDD and monitoring.\n* Development of AI prompts and tools for E&S-related activities.\n* Development of the E&S handbook for MIGA.\n* Supporting internal knowledge-sharing sessions or training materials on E&S topics for MIGA staff.\n\n### Selection Criteria\n* Candidates must be currently enrolled in, or in the final year of, a postgraduate (master’s/PhD) program.\n* Candidates are not required to have prior professional experience.\n* Academic background must align with the requirements outlined in the job description.\n* Demonstrated interest in development work and the World Bank Group’s mission.\n* Strong analytical, research, and problem-solving skills.\n* Effective written and verbal communication skills.\n* Ability to work effectively in diverse, team-based environments.\n* Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities within tight deadlines.\n* Proficiency in English; French would be an advantage.
