Job Description
The Kenya National Youth Service (NYS) is conducting a nationwide recruitment exercise for volunteer servicemen and servicewomen. This role involves undergoing intensive basic paramilitary training and offering voluntary service to the nation across various parts of Kenya. The NYS focuses on helping youth discover and develop their potential through an elaborate youth empowerment master plan.
Responsibilities
Attend and complete Basic Paramilitary Training at specified NYS academies.
Offer voluntary service to the Nation in various parts of the Republic of Kenya as assigned.
Participate in national development projects and community service initiatives.
Maintain high standards of discipline and physical fitness throughout the service period.
Requirements
Be a Kenyan citizen and a resident of the respective Sub-County of recruitment.
Be aged between 18 and 24 years.
Have attained a minimum mean grade of D (Plain) in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE).
Produce the original National Identity Card and academic certificates at the recruitment center (with one set of photocopies).
Possess a valid police clearance certificate (Certificate of Good Conduct).
Be willing to undergo a medical examination during and after the recruitment exercise.
Be prepared to undergo Basic Paramilitary Training.
Be ready to offer voluntary service to the Nation in any part of the Republic of Kenya.
Additional Considerations
Orphans: Those who meet the requirements will be given special consideration upon presentation of valid proof (parents’ death certificates or burial permits).
Persons with Disabilities: Encouraged to participate provided they can withstand the prescribed physical training.
Talents: Applicants with demonstrated sports skills and talents will have an added advantage.
How to Apply
The recruitment exercise will be conducted throughout the Republic from Monday, 16th March 2026 to Saturday, 21st March 2026, starting at 8:00 a.m. daily. Successful candidates will report to the NYS Paramilitary Academy, Gilgil, or NYS Technical Training Institute (NYSTTI) Naivasha, on dates specified in their calling letters.
The recruitment exercise for Tana River and other sub-counties will take place from Monday, 16th March 2026, to Saturday, 21st March 2026, starting at 8:00 a.m. daily. Prospective applicants must present themselves at the recruitment centers within their respective Sub-Counties with original documents and photocopies.
