The Kenya National Youth Service (NYS) is conducting a nationwide recruitment exercise for NYS volunteers (male and female). This initiative aims to help Kenyan youth discover and develop their potential through paramilitary training and voluntary service across the country, following a comprehensive youth empowerment master plan.
Responsibilities and Duties
Undergo Basic Paramilitary Training at designated NYS academies.
Offer voluntary service to the Nation in any part of the Republic of Kenya as assigned.
Participate in national development projects and youth empowerment programs.
Maintain high standards of discipline and patriotism throughout the service period.
Report to the NYS Paramilitary Academy in Gilgil or NYS Technical Training Institute (NYSTTI) Naivasha upon successful recruitment.
Requirements and Qualifications
Citizenship: Must be a Kenyan citizen and a resident of the respective Sub-County of recruitment.
Age: Must be aged between 18 and 24 years.
Education: Minimum mean grade of D (Plain) in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE).
Documentation: Produce the original National Identity Card and academic certificates (with one set of photocopies) at the recruitment center.
Clearance: Possess a valid police clearance certificate (Certificate of Good Conduct).
Health: Be willing to undergo medical examinations during and after the recruitment exercise.
Commitment: Preparedness to undergo Basic Paramilitary Training and a readiness to offer voluntary service anywhere in Kenya.
Special Considerations
Orphans: Special consideration will be given to orphans who meet the requirements, provided they present valid documentary proof (e.g., parents’ death certificates or burial permits).
Persons with Disabilities: Encouraged to participate at their respective sub-counties, provided they can withstand the prescribed physical training.
Talents: Applicants with demonstrated sports skills and talents will have an added advantage.
Important Note
NYS does not condone corruption. Canvassing or offering monetary inducements for admission is an offence that results in automatic disqualification and potential prosecution. Incidents should be reported to the Commandant General at 020-2400129.
How to Apply
The nationwide recruitment exercise will be conducted from Monday, 16th March 2026 to Saturday, 21st March 2026, starting at 8:00 a.m. daily.
Interested candidates should report to recruitment centers in their respective Sub-Counties within Samburu with the following:
