The Kenya National Youth Service (NYS) is conducting a nationwide recruitment exercise for volunteer servicemen and servicewomen (male and female). This role is designed for young Kenyan citizens who are ready to discover and develop their potential through discipline and national service. The National Youth Service has been a premier agency for youth empowerment in Kenya since 1964, focusing on helping youth develop their potential through an elaborate empowerment master plan.
Responsibilities and Duties
Paramilitary Training: Successfully undergo Basic Paramilitary Training at the NYS Paramilitary Academy in Gilgil or the NYS Technical Training Institute (NYSTTI) in Naivasha.
National Service: Be prepared to offer voluntary service to the Nation in any part of the Republic of Kenya as assigned upon completion of training.
Development: Engage in vocational training and youth empowerment programs aimed at national development projects.
Discipline: Maintain high standards of conduct and adhere to the paramilitary code of the service throughout the duration of the program.
Requirements and Qualifications
Citizenship: Must be a Kenyan citizen and a resident of the respective Sub-County of recruitment.
Age: Must be aged between 18 and 24 years.
Education: Must have attained a minimum mean grade of D (Plain) in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE).
Identity: Produce the original National Identity Card and academic certificates at the recruitment center.
Conduct: Must possess a valid police clearance certificate (Certificate of Good Conduct).
Health: Be willing to undergo a medical examination during and after the recruitment exercise.
Training Commitment: Be prepared to undergo Basic Paramilitary Training and serve in any part of the Republic of Kenya.
Special Considerations
Orphans: Special consideration will be given to orphans who meet the requirements, provided they present valid documentary proof such as parents’ death certificates or burial permits.
Persons with Disabilities (PWDs): PWDs are encouraged to participate provided they can withstand the prescribed physical training.
Talents: Applicants with demonstrated sports skills and talents will have an added advantage.
How to Apply
The recruitment exercise will be conducted from Monday, 16th March 2026 to Saturday, 21st March 2026, starting at 8:00 a.m. daily.
Attend Physically: Appear at the recruitment center on the scheduled dates with your Original National Identity Card, Academic Certificates, and one set of photocopies of these documents.
Documentation: Ensure you have a valid Certificate of Good Conduct.
Reporting: Successful candidates will be issued calling letters specifying when to report to the NYS Paramilitary Academy (Gilgil) or NYSTTI (Naivasha).
