The National Youth Service (NYS) is a premier agency through which the Kenyan Government executes a comprehensive youth empowerment master plan. This recruitment drive aims to help youth discover and develop their potential through paramilitary training and voluntary service to the nation.
Role Overview
Successful candidates will undergo rigorous Basic Paramilitary Training and will be deployed to various parts of the Republic of Kenya to offer voluntary service in national development projects and community initiatives.
Responsibilities and Duties
Participate in intensive Basic Paramilitary Training at the NYS Paramilitary Academy in Gilgil or the NYS Technical Training Institute (NYSTTI) in Naivasha.
Offer voluntary service to the nation in any part of the Republic of Kenya as assigned by the service.
Adhere to the strict code of conduct, discipline, and physical fitness standards of the National Youth Service.
Engage in community service and national development activities upon completion of training.
Qualifications and Requirements
Citizenship: Must be a Kenyan citizen and a resident of the respective Sub-County of recruitment.
Age: Must be aged between 18 and 24 years.
Education: Minimum mean grade of D (Plain) in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE).
Documentation: Must produce the original National Identity Card and academic certificates, and submit one set of photocopies at the recruitment center.
Clearance: Must possess a valid police clearance certificate (Certificate of Good Conduct).
Health: Must be willing to undergo a medical examination during and after the recruitment exercise.
Training: Must be prepared to undergo Basic Paramilitary Training.
Service: Must be ready to offer voluntary service in any part of Kenya.
Special Considerations
Orphans: Orphans who meet the requirements will be given special consideration upon presentation of valid proof, such as parents’ death certificates or burial permits.
Persons with Disabilities: PWDs are encouraged to participate provided they can withstand the prescribed physical training.
Talents: Applicants with demonstrated sports skills and talents will have an added advantage.

A nationwide recruitment exercise will be conducted from Monday, 16th March 2026 to Saturday, 21st March 2026, starting at 8:00 a.m. daily. How to Apply
The recruitment exercise will be conducted nationwide from Monday, 16th March 2026 to Saturday, 21st March 2026, starting at 8:00 a.m. daily.
Applicants must report to the recruitment center in their respective Sub-County.
Bring the original National Identity Card and academic certificates plus one set of photocopies.
Present a valid Certificate of Good Conduct.
Successful candidates will report to the NYS Paramilitary Academy (Gilgil) or NYSTTI (Naivasha) as specified in their calling letters.
